About Our Founder, Kori Swearengen

Kori Swearengen, is the founder of Rhymes and Spines, a mom, children's author, Nurse Practioner, and life-long literacy advocate.

After graduating from William Carey College and Union University, Kori continued her career advocating for children and families through literary advocacy and educational programming.
Kori is the author of two children’s books, the producer of a coloring book, and the author of several e-books put forth to educate parents on healthy ways to communicate to their children.
Kori’s educational programming includes book readings, literary workshops, and programming for parents about mental health and talking to their children about sexual health.
When Kori is not putting pen to paper, she enjoys spending time with her amazing family,
marching to her own beat, promoting mental wellness, and working to erase the stigma of mental illness in the black and brown communities.

"As a mother, it is imperative for my daughters to know they can accomplish anything they set
their mind to. And so, my daughters are the muses, the inspiration of my first children's book, Brown Girl, Brown Girl. Brown Girl, Brown Girl originated from a poem I wrote to my daughters." - Kori Swearengen
